Siebert Zinke

September 18, 1936 — August 31, 2019

Holmes City Township

Siebert Walter Erich Zinke Jr was born September 18, 1936 to Siebert W.B. Zinke & Olivia (Altenburg) Zinke at the New Ulm Hospital in Brown County, MN. Siebert was the oldest of four children. Siebert was baptized at the Antrim Church in rural Truman, MN in 1936. Siebert was raised on the Zinke farm in rural Truman, MN. He attended the Antrim Church Country School through 8th grade. He loved playing baseball in the parking lot of the school.

Siebert started farming when he was only 11 years old and continued until he passed away at 82 years old. He farmed with his father until he was 16 years old. He then went to Seattle Washington and stayed with his uncle, Erich ZInke, until he was 18 years old building Boeing Airplanes. When he was 18 he returned home to Minnesota.

Siebert met his beloved wife of 63 years, Bonnie Mae (Hoeper) at a gas station only she didn’t know it when he was 18 years old. He saw her getting tires changed on a car and he asked around until he found out who she was and where she lived, then went & asked her out. Siebert said he was smitten from the start! Siebert & Bonnie were united in Holy Matrimony on April 2nd, 1956 at the Lutheran Church in Lewisville, MN. They have five children: Denis Zinke of rural Kensington, MN; Debra Eineke of rural Madelia, MN; Janet (Keven) Wiederholt of Farwell, MN; Beverly (George) Suchy of rural Lowry, MN; and Patricia Zinke of rural Millerville, MN. They had 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gilbert (Edith) Zinke of Lewisville, MN; sister, Elaine (Larry) Brummond rural Lewisville, MN; brother-in-law, Dale (Grace) Hoeper of rural Madelia, MN; brother-in-law, Norman Hoeper of Arizona; sister-in-law, Lucille Cheny of Montevideo, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Siebert and Bonnie after marriage lived in Lewisville where he worked on several of the Tinley Farms for two years. Then they moved to rural Northrup on another farm for two years. After that they were in rural Holm City for nine years until they bought their present farm in 1968 where they raised their children and farmed until he passed away. Siebert semi-retired 21 years ago at 61 years old, but he got bored and started out working at Die Cast in Starbuck and then went to Donnelly Manufacturing in Alexandria until he was 79 years old working while maintaining some beef cattle at the farm too.

Siebert loved farming and his cows. He enjoyed bailing hay because it kept his cows happy! He taught all of his grandchildren how to bale hay and care for his cows. When he milked in the barn he’d play a radio so the cows would produce more milk and it made his grandchildren helping him happier too! He earned many awards for the milk his cows produced and he was proud of them. He passed on many valuable skills onto his family including hardwork; honesty; faith in the Lord; how to mend a fence; and the love for the outdoors.

Siebert was a very active member of the Oscar Lake Lutheran Church since 1968. He served on many boards.  Prayer was very important to Siebert even at the end of life his faith stayed strong. Siebert also served on the first Runestone Park Board Association for over 10 years. Siebert also enjoyed helping the Kensington Lions and riding on their Viking Ship with his son and grandchildren.

Siebert passed away on August 31, 2019 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN due to chronic heart disease surrounded by his loved ones with a strong faith in the Lord.

Siebert was preceded in death by his parents, Olivia & Walter Zinke; sister, Alfreda Kasube; brother-in-law, John Kasube; uncle, Erich Zinke; granddaughter Amelia Zinke-Miller; great-grandson Michael Woodke; and many aunts and uncles.
