Sandra Lee Groth Bloomquist was born on August 26, 1939 in Mayville, North Dakota to parents Dorothy Elken Groth Larson and Selmer “Sam” Paul Groth. Sandra`s father died when she was two years old and her mother married Orrie Larson in 1944. Sandra died on July 19, 2020 in Alexandria, Minnesota with her family by her side after living with Vascular Dementia. Sandy graduated from Mayville high school in 1957. She continued her education at the University of North Dakota and Macalester College graduating in 1962. She taught kindergarten for one year in Ely, Minnesota. She married Karl Bloomquist in 1963 and they spent the first two years of their marriage in the Air Force in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1965 they moved to Alexandria, Minnesota.
Sandy enjoyed children, teaching Sunday School, Cub Scouts, Great Books and volunteering. She was very creative and encouraged her kids to do many crafts and activities stressing the importance of having fun and being a kid. She devoted her life to her family spending time at the lake in the summer and traveling to Colorado for ski trips in the winter. She was very patient and kind.
Sandy liked to read, listen to music, eat out and travel. She would make any little trip into an exciting adventure. She enjoyed being on the library board at church and belonging to the Bridge Club that didn`t play Bridge and her coffee group. She enjoyed people and made a point to seek out anyone that may need a little help.
She is survived by her husband Karl of 57 years and her children: Erik of Alexandria, MN, Sonja (Daniel Jacobson) of Moorhead, MN and Kari of Bemidji, MN. Her grandson Aaron Dreyer of Bemidji, MN. A sister, Joan Tryhus of Scottsdale, AZ and a brother, Lorry Larson of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law.
Visitation will be at 1 pm and funeral services at 2 pm at Anderson Funeral Home, 659 Voyager Drive NW, Alexandria, MN. Burial will be at 3 pm at Kinkead Cemetery, 530 Agnes Boulevard, Alexandria, MN. The family requests that guests follow CDC guidelines for COVID 19 by wearing face masks and following social distancing.
