Rose Ann Maloney

Rose Ann Mary (Lee) Maloney was born on January 2, 1932, in Evansville Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Halver and Gertrude (McCollor) Lee.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon.  Rose Ann graduated from Evansville High School and went on to Nursing School doing her studies at St. Gabriel’s in Little Falls and St. Mary’s in Rochester.  After earning her degree, she returned back to Alexandria and started her nursing career at Lady of Mercy Hospital and later moved to the Douglas County Hospital.

Rose Ann was united in marriage to Eugene Maloney on May 6, 1954, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon.  To this union the couple was blessed with 3 children, Debra, Renae and Patrick.  Rose Ann continued her loved nursing career and was asked to spearhead the Ambulatory Services/Surgery Center at the Douglas County Hospital.  She retired from nursing after 42 years.  Even after retirement, she was an enthusiastic learner through the senior college.

Rose Ann enjoyed following politics, being involved in many clubs including: Girl Scouts, Zetetic Club, Investment Club, Alexandria Technical College, St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, and she was the original founder of Hockey Mom’s to raise money for the ice arena.  She loved Alexandria and being at the cabin on Lake Ida.  Rose Ann also loved being around people, entertaining, and being at a good party.  Most of all, Rose Ann loved being with her family and especially loved attending events of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose Ann died on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the age of 89.  She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Doug Thompson) Oleson of Alexandria and Renae (Tom) Hills of Alexandria; son, Pat Maloney of Alexandria; grandchildren, Josh (Betsy) Hills, Angela (Sinon) Janay, Steven (Alisa) Maloney, Rachel (Ryan) Buse, Lindsey (Nate) Bosek, Lexi Maloney, Trent (Hope) Thompson, and Cori Thompson; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold Lee of Alexandria; sisters, Gladys (Jake) Hiem of Topeka, KS and Linda Lee of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Susan (Arlynn Johnson) Lee; and many nieces and nephews.  Rose Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Maloney; parents, Halver and Gertrude; brothers, Dennis, Roger, and Donald Lee; and special friend, Cal Granlund.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
