Robert Ruplinger

Robert Leon Ruplinger was born on March 13, 1926, in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Ernest and Gunda (Tolifson) Ruplinger.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Robert graduated from Holloway High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at the end of WWII during the Occupation of Japan.

Robert was united in marriage to Audrey Hoffman on May 20, 1946, in Louisville, KY.  After Robert was discharged from the Army on January 1947 he came home to Audrey and a baby girl named Janice Marie.  A boy was born on September 7, 1948, whom they named James Ernest.  They farmed near Hancock, MN until the fall of 1983, and then Jim and his wife, Lee moved to the family farm to continue the farming operation. Robert and Audrey moved to a home on Lake Victoria in Alexandria, MN.

They traveled and camped all over the USA including Alaska and Mexico. They also traveled with Jan and her husband Jim to England and all the countries in Western Europe.  Robert also enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, playing cards and being active in the VFW.

Robert died on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Alomere Health at the age of 93.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; son, James; brother, Richard Ruplinger; and sisters, Donna Mae Ruplinger and Ardis Pederson.  Robert is survived by daughter, Jan (Jim) Striepe; and daughter-in-law, Lee Ruplinger; 5 grandchildren, Becky (Todd) Nadgwick, Amy Searle, and John (Amy) Ruplinger, Michelle (Hamish Patterson) Striepe, and TJ (Jennifer) Striepe; 8 great-grandchildren; Sami (Josh) Bruns, Cody, Nissa, Jameson Nadgwick, Grace and Maggie Patterson, and Jude and Arly Striepe; and sister, Kathy Gulsvig of Starbuck.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Jerry Lanes officiating.  Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 235, Marine Corps League Detachment 1409, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.  Inurnment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.

In lieu of flower memorials, the family requests donations be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church or the Veteran Memorial Park.
