Patricia Ann Baustian was born on January 1, 1928, in Minot, ND to Isaac and Celia (Klein) Bergen. She graduated High School from Stillwater, MN and attended Macalester College where she earned a teaching degree in English.
Pat was united in marriage to Donald Baustian on August 6, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, MN. The couple was blessed with 5 children and lived in southern Minnesota until moving to Staples in February of 1958. Pat worked caring for the children until they were older before starting her career as an English, Literature, and Spanish Teacher in Staples, where she worked for 25 years. After retiring, the couple worked at the Christmas Store in Yellowstone National Park and later at Mount Rushmore in the gift shop. They enjoyed wintering in Rockport, TX for a number of years.
Pat enjoyed music, reading and family. She was active in the Staples Community Chorus, Sweet Adeline’s, Staples United Methodist Choir, and loved playing the piano at home. She was very involved with education and the community in Staples. Pat and Don enjoyed camping trips and taking the children across the United States. They also enjoyed volunteering at Knute Nelson and visiting with the residents. Pat will be remembered for her kindness, unconditional love, and finding the best in everyone.
Pat died on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 93. She is survived by her husband, Donald of Alexandria; sons, Brian (Patti) Baustian of Alexandria, Brent Baustian of Alexandria; daughter, Barbara (Donald) Swenson of Oakdale; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Connie Weiss of Pittsburg, PA; sister-in-law, Linda Bergen of Venice, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Celia; sons, Bradley and Bruce Baustian; and brother, Bruce Bergen.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
