Norma Jean was born on August 1, 1943, in Larkin Township, Minnesota the daughter of Clarence and Malaine (Vaske) Majeres. She grew up in Wilmont and graduated from Wilmont High School in 1961. Norma was united in marriage to James Lais on November 17, 1962, in Wilmont at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church.
After their marriage the couple moved to Chamberlain, South Dakota, then to Wausau, Wisconsin and in 1966 moved to Alexandria. Norma worked as a nurse in the OB ward of the Alexandria Hospital. She also worked at the Alexandria Clinic and the Runestone Clinic.
Norma will be remembered as a very giving, caring wife, wise mother, generous grandma and of course, the ultimate hostess. She was always willing to help family and friends. Her beautiful flower gardens were something she took immense pride in.
Norma died on Friday, July 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her four children: Tim of Alexandria, Jackie Bauer of Plymouth, MN, David (Janette) of Alexandria, Julie (Bob) Shervin of Apache Junction, AZ; five grandchildren: Joshua, Cassandra, Katelyn, Courtney, Malaine; five great grandchildren: Matthew, Josiah, Abigail, Riley, Noah; sisters: Janet (LeRoy) Fuerstenberg, Marge (Dave) Henning; brother, Ray (Ceal) Majeres.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim; two brothers: Daryl & Maynard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14th, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Please leave memories for family on Norma's tribute wall. The Mass will be live streamed for those who are not able to make it to Norma's Service. St. Mary's Church does require that you please wear a mask to keep everyone safe.
