Nancy Kemp

Nancy Lee Kemp passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021. She was born on June 30, 1935 in Minneapolis to Stan and Margaret (Chambers) Russell. She was their only child.

Nancy graduated from Anoka High School in 1953. She met the love of her life, John Kemp and they were married on July 17, 1953.

They moved to Alaska, where John was serving in U.S. Army. The first of their five children was born while they were in Alaska. When John completed his service to our country, they moved back to Anoka and stayed there until moving to Osakis in 1967. They moved to Mena, Arkansas in 1987. They missed their children and grandchildren, so they moved back to Minnesota in 2004. In the spring of 2019, they moved to Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Alexandria.

Nancy ran a restaurant in Osakis, worked for Hardware Hank in Alexandria and retired from Walmart. Nancy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them at their cabins. She liked to play bingo and just about any card game.

She is survived her sons Stephen (Linda) of Spring Grove, Rich (Terri) of Brooklyn Park, daughters Vickie of Alexandria, and Jean (Mark) Nolan of Minnetonka. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law’s Villa (Jim) Konen, Jeanette Kemp and Lorie Kemp.

She is preceded in death her husband John, son Kim, her parents Stan and Margaret.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Edgewood Assisted Living for the loving care they gave Nancy and John.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
