Marie Smith

Marie Ann (Molander) Smith was born on March 17, 1931, in Balaton, MN to Nels and Maud (Mattson) Molander. She attended and later graduated from Huron High School in South Dakota. Following her schooling, Marie met William Smith and the couple were united in marriage on August 10, 1950. The couple lived in Huron, SD, Lake Preston, SD, Little Falls, MN, and finally in Villard, MN in 1959. These moves were because of William’s job promotions within the Farmers Union Co-op. Once settled in Villard, Marie began working outside their home in a part-time bookkeeping job with her husband. William suddenly died in 1980 and Marie continued with her bookkeeping job until her retirement. Marie moved to Alexandria making new friend and attending church and Bible study. Marie enjoyed painting, playing cards, making puzzles, and reading. In 2012 she moved to Annandale to be closer to family where she resided until her passing.

Marie died on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Centennial Villa in Annandale, MN. She is survived by her six children: Deb Smith, Bill (Nancy) Smith, Sue (Larry Adey) Smith, Cindy (David) Ferris, Scott (Peggy) Smith, Todd (Lisa) Smith; nine grandchildren: Matt (Patty) Carlson, Mark (Meghan) Smith, Angie (Tony) Arnold, John (Lacey) Ferris, Kelly (Steven) Schneider, Amanda (Shawn) Deans, Jennifer Smith, Brett Smith, and Jake Smith; 13 great-grandchildren: Austin Carlson, Savannah, Kaelyn, Natalie, Kendall, and Leslie Schneider, Emory and Greyson Ferris, Coralee and Everett Arnold, Mason and Ava Thomas, and Aubrey Deans; and two step-great-granddaughters: Tanisha and Maya Arnold.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard, MN.
