Leonard Floding

June 27, 1928 — January 8, 2020

Alexandria

Leonard Wallace Floding was born in Ida Township on June 27, 1928, to a Swedish couple, Frank & Myrtle (Johnson) Floding at the family farm. While helping his father on the Lake Charlie farm, he attended Country School #9.

From an early age, Leonard was given the gift of working with his hands and soon became a self-taught, skilled craftsman with all he touched. At age 17, he started working at the Alexandria Boatworks as a nailer building the “Lady of the Lakes“ wooden fishing boats. From there, Leonard started his life long career as a perfectionist in construction from building houses to making Bellanca Airplane wings to running major commercial construction projects like Alexandria Bremer Bank, Knute Nelson Nursing Home, multiple Pizza Huts, and schools. In 1981, Leonard started Floding Construction focusing on house building, furniture and remodeling. Leonard’s hands touched many Alexandria businesses and homes too numerous to mention, each completed with excellence and great pride.

Leonard was quite the dancer. He met the love of his life, Marcine Prazak, at the Sauk Centre Coliseum and soon they were dancing up a storm to the Six Fat Dutchman. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1956. Many a shoe sole was worn off from all night polkas and waltzing after 63 years of marriage. If there was music, Leonard’s toes were a-tappin’.

Leonard was a humble, loving man who lived his faith as an example to his family. He had a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the value of a dollar for an honest day’s work. He was always willing to help his children and loved to attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events.

Leonard had a strong love for nature. You could easily find him camping, fishing for sunnies, spearing for northerns or hunting gophers, pheasants or deer. He was an excellent shot, and this all provided for many a meal on the table not to mention many family fish frys.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the age of 91, Leonard went home to the Lord after a long battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Floding; brothers, Rueben, Clifford, and Lloyd; and sisters, Gladys Hoppe and Myrtle Ann Brooks.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Marcine, and his children, Marie (Gerald) Rutten, Daniel (Mary) Floding, and Rodney (Jenny) Floding; grandchildren, Christopher (Cindi) Rutten, Jessica (Casey) Petrick, Tyler Floding, Jeremy Floding, Mitchel Floding and Alisah Floding; great-grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Abram, Ella, Stella and Miles.

From Nephew Pastor Dana Brooks:  "3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! ...8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls."   1 Peter 1:3,8-9
