Larry Ludwig

Larry Luverne Ludwig was born September 24, 1954 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Luverne and Shirley (Henshaw) Ludwig. At age three Larry and his family relocated to Alexandria Minnesota where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1972.

Following school Larry worked on the family farm off County Road 17. He furthered his education at Alexandria Technical College where he earned a degree in diesel mechanics. He worked for one year in Parkers Prairie and one year in the Twin Cities as a mechanic.

On August 26, 1978 Larry was united in marriage to Kay Bohne in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Alexandria and were blessed with two children, Sheena and Shawn. Larry began working for Bellanca Aircraft as a mechanic. Later Larry began working at Land O’Lakes as an over the road driver. He continued at the same company as it was absorbed by Northern Food and Dairy and later by Sun Opta. In his later years he moved from driving to plant maintenance. Larry also worked as a welder for a short time at Continental Bridge in Carlos, MN.

On January 25, 2008 Larry was united in marriage to Beverly Shriver and expanded his family with three step-sons, Matthew, Joshua and Kyle. The couple made their home on a hobby farm near Garfield, MN.

Larry enjoyed gardening and fishing. He loved hunting deer, pheasants and especially ducks. He was a fan of NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson.  Larry was also a longtime member of the Leaf Valley Sportsman Club, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Larry could fix anything and enjoyed making repairs and improvements. He always put others first; if somebody needed his skills he dropped what he was doing to lend a hand.  Larry was also a dog lover and gave his dogs, Jess and Bree, special treatment.

On Monday, January 15, 2018 Larry died at the age of sixty-three years; as Larry would say “It is what it is”. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bev Ludwig; parents, Luverne and Shirley Ludwig; his step-mother, Charlotte Ludwig; and his brother, Tom Ludwig. Larry is survived by son, Shawn Ludwig and wife, Crystal, of Bemidji, MN; daughter, Sheena Radermacher of Alexandria; step-sons, Joshua Shriver of Valparaiso, IN, Kyle Shriver of Fargo, ND and Matthew Shriver of Belle Plaine, MN; grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Dalton and Kylea Ludwig; brother, Tim Ludwig and wife, Mari, of Long Prairie, MN; sisters, Peggy Hansen and husband, Alan, of Zimmerman, MN and Kathy Brada and husband, Paul, of Colorado Springs, CO; step-brother, Michael Granlund and wife, Sally,  of Olivia, MN; sister-in-law , Arlene Ludwig of Garfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 5 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home.
