Kelly Garner

Kelly Denise (Bain) Garner was born on April 3, 1961 in Washington D.C. the daughter of Carl and Lorraine (Robertson) Bain. The family moved while Kelly was in grade school to Alexandria, MN on Lake Ida. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979 and took a position at Piper Jaffray doing secretarial work. One of her duties was to call in the stock market report to the radio station each day and that’s how she found her way into radio. Kelly started working at KXRA, later moved to KIK, and eventually back to KXRA, working 14 years between the two stations. On April 25, 1981, Kelly was united in marriage to Rick Garner at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Nelson, MN. The couple started their family in 1983 with the birth of their son, Jake. After her time in radio, Kelly worked for the Alexandria HRA inspecting houses for 20 years. She retired early due to health problems, but was able to fully enjoy her time at home.

Kelly enjoyed reading, gardening, and camping especially on the outer banks of North Carolina. She also had a passion for animals. Volunteering her time to transport rescue animals, loving on her three dogs, and trying to spot all of her favorite birds in the yard above all the hummingbirds.

Kelly died on Sunday, July 25, 2021. She is survived by her husband: Rick; her son: Jake; and 3 grandchildren: Remi, Layla, and Gamble.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
