Joan Moen

Joan Marie Olive (Ross) Moen, age 88, passed away on May 7, 2019 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis MN. She was born in Rugby, ND to Eugene and Josie (Rasmusson) Ross and baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner, ND.

She graduated from Rugby High School and attended college at NDSU in Fargo, ND where she met Glen Moen. They were married on June 20 ^th , 1950, in Grand Forks, ND.  The couple moved to Fergus Falls, MN in 1952 where they owned and operated Moen Realty for 35 years. During that time, they were blessed with two children, Craig and Carolyn. Joan was involved in many volunteer activities in Fergus Falls including First Lutheran Church, Lake Region Hospital, serving on the YMCA board, and many other organizations.  She was a long time member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.  She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their cottage on Ottertail Lake, and she also enjoyed snow skiing and traveling.   In 1987, Glen and Joan moved to Clearwater, FL and returned to Minnesota a few years later, residing in Alexandria.  While in Alexandria, Joan worked at the Herberger’s Department Store where she made numerous friends and was well known for her kindness and her sense of style and beauty.  She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Joan was devoted to her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who always brought her joy.

Joan is survived by her children Craig Moen of Plymouth MN, and Carolyn (Tim) Aarsvold of Alexandria MN.  Grandchildren include Calvin Moen, John (Angie) Moen, David (Amanda) Aarsvold, Katie (Brian) Hope, Megan White, and Melissa Moen. Great grandchildren include Linden, Ellen, and Maren Aarsvold; Grayson, Hazel, and Everett Hope; Mackenzie and Maverick White; Charlie Adamson.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Josie Ross, her husband Glen Moen, and her brother George Ross.

A service of remembrance will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria MN, on Saturday, May 11 ^th , at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will begin at 1 PM at the funeral home.   Interment will be at Ness Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mekinock, ND at a later date.
