Jeanette Jost

Jeanette Sophie (Gobernatz) Jost, 92, of Alexandria, passed on into eternal glory surrounded by many loved ones on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. She was born to Anthony and Julia (Dirkes) Gobernatz in Two Inlets, MN, on December 4, 1927. At an early age, Jeanette’s family moved to Browerville, MN, where she attended public and parochial schools. In 1945, Jeanette moved to Morris. She met Paul Jost in 1946, and they were united in marriage on July 10, 1947 at St. Peter’s Church in Browerville. Eight children were born into this union: Jane (Keith) Ernst, Tom Jost, Carol Geiszler, Nancy (Gerard Voz) Jost, Mary (Vern) DeRung, Joan Jost, Barbara Jost, and Rob (Debbie) Jost. They made their home and raised their children on a farm in Alberta, MN. They later moved to Morris, MN and 26 years later made their final home in Alexandria, MN.

Jeanette was a homemaker, worked at S & L Department Store, and was a teacher’s aide in early childhood education for many years. Jeanette valued education and received her GED in 1970 while raising her children. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria, Christian Mothers, St. Michael’s Mission Club, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and Card Club.

Jeanette enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and taking care of her children, grandchildren, and many other special people that came her way; her family was always growing. Jeanette was a lifetime caregiver, mother, and grandmother to countless people. Her nurturing and generous heart was a blessing to many. Jeanette was gifted with a green thumb and she grew many beautiful flowers. She also loved to feed and watch the birds in her garden. Jeanette was an excellent cook. She could effortlessly throw together a dinner for a crowd at a moment’s notice, complete with dessert. She was always prepared and welcomed anyone that might drop in for a visit.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Paul Jost, her parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. Jeanette is survived by her 8 children; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty, Margaret, Helen, and Irene; brother, Tony, and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria at 11 AM. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7th from 4-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home, with Parish Prayers beginning at 4 PM and a Christian Mothers rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue from 10-11 AM at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to West Central Initiative for Early Childhood Education.
