Jeanene was born on November 5, 1935, the daughter of Gus and Eva (Gano) Johnson. She was raised in Cherokee, Iowa where she attended Cherokee High School and met the love of her life Frank McFarlane. The couple was married on November 22, 1954 at the Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa.
After their marriage, the couple lived in Iowa and Southern Minnesota before moving to Brandon, MN where Frank and a friend purchased a meat market and later the Brandon Super Market. This is where they raised their two sons: Mark & Dan. The boys enjoyed when Jeanene would take them to Lake Chippewa and during their teenage years the McFarlane household became the hangout for many including the Idyl Fancy, Mark's Rock band.
She enjoyed working in her landscape garden, making afghans, knitting, baking and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her laugh which could be heard throughout a room and make people smile.
Jeanene left Brandon shortly after Frank’s death and moved to Rochester to be closer to family. While there, she enjoyed working at Walmart where she became known as Grandma by coworkers and customers. She enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events and began to welcome her great grandchildren. In 2017, she moved to the Hadley House Assisted Living in Perham.
Jeanene died on Sunday, June 13, 2021. She is survived by her two sons: Mark (Judy) of New York Mills, Dan (Jackie) of Oronoco; six grandchildren: Brent(Tara), Stacey(Brett), Andrew(Salome), Corey(Aileen), Casey(Hana), and Kelsey; one step grandchild, Tricia; 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gus and Eva; her husband, Frank; her cousin, Dorothy; and a step grandchild, Bill.
