Janice Elaine Rime Blumer, the daughter of Rudolph and Dorothy (Taylor) Rime, was born on June 18, 1931, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She was baptized on October 4, 1931, at English Lutheran Church in Britton, SD. Janice graduated in the Class of 1949, from Ellendale High School in Ellendale, ND. She continued her education by receiving her Teaching Certificate from North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School in Ellendale, ND. Janice was united in marriage to Boyd F. Blumer on September 16, 1951, in Ellendale, ND at the First Presbyterian Church. Four children were born to this union, Stephen, Rebecca, Mark, and Eric. Janice received her BS in Education from UND-Ellendale. Janice worked as a teacher in Frederick and Britton, SD, and in Gwinner, ND, and also in Nevada and California. In 1981, Janice received her MS in Education/Administration from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Janice served as elementary principal in Britton and Wakpala, SD, and in Gwinner, ND.
In addition to teaching elementary school children, Janice taught piano for many years, she was a choral director, an accomplished organist and pianist, and a real estate agent in Lakeville, MN, later in her life. She was faithful believer and was a member of Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church in Gwinner, ND, Ellendale Presbyterian Church in Ellendale, ND, and Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Janice contributed to the book “Doc’s Lab: Myth and Legends of Cannery Row”, by author and friend Ed Larsh. She was an avid reader, gardener, excellent Scrabble player, traveler, wonderful storyteller and a descendent of the Mayflower. Janice was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Janice Elaine Rime Blumer, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Knute Nelson, at the age of 90 years old. She is survived by her children, Stephen Blumer of Edina, Rebecca (David) Hartness of Alexandria, Mark (Shirley) Blumer of Walcott, ND, and Eric (Deborah) Blumer of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Breitzman of Alexandria, Jeffrey Hartness of Mankato, Taylor Blumer of Fargo, ND, Emily (Douglas) Daube of Bemidji, Andrew Blumer of Edina, and David Blumer of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, Jack Breitzman, Miles Breitzman, Jaylin Hartness, Alice Daube and Liliana Daube; brothers, Randy (Sara Edwards) Rime of North Carolina and Rick (Diana) Rime of Vacaville, CA. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Ramon Rime.
A Private Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria, MN.
The Celebration of Life Service will be livestreamed and recorded on Janice’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website.
Interment will be Britton Cemetery in Britton, SD on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorials will be donated to Janice’s favorite charities.
