Cheryl Elmer

July 5, 1956 — April 21, 2020

Evansville

Cheryl Marie (Roers) Elmer was born to Norbert and Shirley Roers in Parkers Prairie on July 5, 1956. She attended catholic school until eighth grade in Millerville and then graduated from Brandon in the class of 1974. Cheryl met Shane Elmer while they were both in high school and were married shortly after in Alexandria on March 6, 1975.

Cheryl and Shane made their home in Evansville where they welcomed their three sons, Jason, Lee, and Bret. Cheryl had a way of making everyone feel special and was often thought of as the community mom to the kids of Evansville. With the hustle and bustle of raising three boys their home was known as “Grand Central Station.”

Cheryl brought her love of kids into her career as a paraprofessional at Evansville Public School and the Runestone Regional Learning Center. She also worked in an administrative role in the ER at the Douglas County Hospital. She transitioned into the manufacturing industry in 2005 when she filled the role of her late son, Lee, at Protherm in Brandon until her retirement last fall.

Cheryl loved watching her son’s and grandchildren’s athletic events and was their number one fan. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and was famous for her potato soup, dumplings, porcupine meatballs, and banana bread. Cheryl also had a love for the band, Alabama, and attended as many of their concerts as she could at the grandstands of the MN State Fair.

She is survived by her husband, Shane; children, Jason (Heidi) and Bret (Chelle); grandchildren, Mia, Kendall, Ashlyn, Grayson, Merick, Brielle, and Eilee Elmer; brothers, Clyde (Tammy) Roers, Clem (Kristi) Roers, Chris (Dianna) Roers; sister, Corrine Mumm; nephews and nieces, Brandyn and Brady Roers, Devin, Sadie, and Emma Roers, Derrick, Daren, Rachel, and Brittany Mumm.  She is preceded in death by her son, Lee; her parents; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
