Barbara Hein

Barbara Jean (Luka) Hein was born on February 1, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN to John and Eleanor (Keegel) Luka.  She completed 10th grade in Minneapolis.

Barbara was united in marriage to Frederic Hein on June 22, 1963, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Anoka.  The couple lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis and were blessed with 2 children.  The family lived in the cities until 1973 and then moved to central Minnesota.  They began dairy farming in Clarissa, where Barbara helped with the farming, gardening and canning.  The couple then bounced between farming and manufacturing in many different communities.  Frederic passed in 2000, and Barbara retired shortly afterwards.  Barbara settled in Long Prairie in 2009.

In her younger years, Barbara enjoyed playing cards, taking motorcycle trips, and being an ice racer.  More recently she enjoyed watching television, especially court tv, cooking shows and the Lifetime Channel.  She loved spending time with family and friends and was an excellent cook and a great host.

Barbara died on Monday, October 28, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Alexandria at the age of 73,

Barbara died on Monday, October 28, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Alexandria at the age of 73, under the loving care of Knute Nelson Hospice.   She is survived by her son, Frederic (Sue) Hein of Long Prairie; daughter, Sheri Hein of Alexandria; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild;  sister, Nancy (Ken) Francis of Roseville; and her best friend of 65 years, Carol Bonnette of Princeton.  Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleanor; and husband, Frederic.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
