Wendy Zander

Wendy Jean (Johnson) Zander was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on August 21, 1937, to Nona and Walter Johnson. She was the first of four siblings. She moved with her family to Mahtomedi, Minnesota in 1947. After graduating from Mahtomedi High School in 1955, Wendy headed to Washington D.C. to begin her career in accounting.

Wendy met Edward Schaub and married him in 1959. They had one daughter, Linda Jean who was born in 1960. They moved to Hastings, Minnesota in 1961 and lived there for 3 years. When a job opportunity opened up in the police department, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Ed worked as a patrol officer and Wendy as a dispatcher. She eventually got into the accounting department. Wendy and Ed divorced in 1971.

Wendy knew Harold Zander from the police department; they married in 1973. They moved to California in 1975. Wendy worked at the Irvine Ranch Water District in the accounting department until her retirement in 1994.

Wendy caught the genealogy bug and her new career began. She loved doing research and enjoyed traveling to find family history. Wendy and Harold moved to Starbuck, Minnesota to continue genealogy research and foster the Ellertson Mortenson Cemetery.

Wendy moved to Alexandria, Minnesota in 2014. She continued to write the Ellertson Mortenson newsletter and traveled both home and abroad.

When her health began to decline, she went into assisted living at Grand Arbor in Alexandria. In 2023, she moved to assisted living in Tucson, Arizona. Wendy died on November 25, 2024.

Wendy had a good life, full of many adventures. She loved her family, friends, and acquaintances.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 11 AM at Ellertson Mortenson Cemetery in Rural Starbuck, MN.
