Wanda Gibb, 101 of Elbow Lake, Minnesota, passed away in her home at Maplewood Manor in Elbow Lake on Saturday, October 5, 2024. A private burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Osseo, Minnesota.
Wanda Maryann Gibb was born on March 30, 1923 to Joseph and Sophie (Mrofska) Goclon in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was one of eight children born to the couple and attended school at Holy Cross Catholic School. After her schooling she held a variety of jobs including those she held for Honeywell and Fanny Farmer.
In her early 20’s, Wanda met Donald Gibb and the two were married in Pierre, South Dakota. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved back to Minnesota. Together, Wanda and Donald welcomed two children. Donald’s work eventually brought the family back to Worthington, Minnesota before settling in Brooklyn Center for many years. The family spent a short time in the Azores Islands and enjoyed trap shooting and experiencing the new landscape and culture.
After Donald’s passing, Wanda remained in Brooklyn Center until eventually moving to Minneapolis to help care for her aging mother. During this time Wanda worked as a beautician and enjoyed speed skating club, tending to her flower and vegetable garden, crocheting, sewing, and making dolls and doll dresses.
Wanda moved to Elbow Lake, Minnesota in 2021 and was able to live independently until November of 2023, when she moved into Maplewood Manor Assisted Living. Throughout her life Wanda was strong in her faith and a devout Catholic. She loved going on outings with her family to play slot machines and pull tabs, and will forever be remembered for her exceptional cooking – especially her homemade pierogies.
Left to cherish Wanda’s memory are her daughter, Bonnie (Michael) Palm; grandchildren: Craig (Traci), Jean (Mark), Tommy (Donna),Wanda (Dan); great-grandchildren: Jordan (Rachel), Tanner, Nick, Meghan, Sarah, Kyle, Jessica, Thomas; her sister, Florence, and her children: Mary, Don, Anne; as well as many other extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gibb; parents, Joseph and Sophie Goclon; son, Lawrence (Freida) Gibb; step-daughter, Donna Rockwood; and her brothers: Joe, Jack, Frank, Walter, John, and Stan.
Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements for Wanda.
