Bismarck

Virginia Mae Carlson was born May 16th, 1951 to parents Ernest and Clara (Baumhofer) Carlson. She was the 7th of 8 children in the family. She always considered home to be Evansville, Minnesota. School, careers and family took her to various places in Minnesota, North Dakota, Illinois, South Dakota and eventually back to North Dakota. Gina graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo, ND. Her first job was in Eau Claire, WI where she worked as a Registered Nurse. She later began working at Dakota Hospital in Fargo, ND. One of her favorite things to do was to take care of people.

In 1979 she met the love of her life, Gregg Walker. The couple married in 1981. In 1984 they were blessed with their oldest daughter, Monica Jean and in 1987 Alison Christine completed the family picture. Work transfers moved the family from West Fargo to Eden Prairie to Springfield to Naperville, Illinois. While in Naperville she worked as a home health nurse as well as in various schools across the district as a teacher’s aide. In 2008, Gregg’s work transferred them to Sioux Falls, SD where Gina took a job as a preschool teacher’s aide in a Catholic School.

In June 2012, Gina and Gregg were blessed with twin granddaughters, Carlee Monica and Morgan Monica. Several road trips were made over the years to North Dakota to visit the grandkids. In 2015, Gregg’s work offered him another transfer to Bismarck, ND and they jumped at the opportunity to be only an hour away from Alison & Jonah and the girls. Gina decided to retire from work to be a full-time grandma. In May 2016, Gina and Gregg were overjoyed to add their only grandson, Elijah Walker, to the family.

Gina was a very dedicated grandma, she made many trips to attend various school activities and sporting events for each of her grandchildren. Gina loved being a wife, mother and nurse but her true joy in this world came from spending time with her grandkids Carlee, Morgan and Elijah.

Virginia leaves behind her husband, Gregg Walker. Daughter and son-in-law, Alison & Jonah Peterson, granddaughters Carlee & Morgan and grandson Elijah. Siblings Colleen (Clayton) Rustad, Robert (Juane) Carlson, Dorothy (Roger) Anderson, Harry Carlson, Elaine Larson, Mary Larson and Gloria Carlson. As well as many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Monica Walker. Her parents, Ernest & Clara Carlson. Siblings Fred Carlson, Donna Carlson, Gary Larson, Brad Larson, and Mark & Barb Criqui.
