Vera Ann Thoennes was born on January 20, 1963, in Alexandria, Minnesota the daughter of Peter and Rose (Daas) Thoennes. She was the eleventh of thirteen children. Vera grew up in Millerville and attended Brandon Public Schools. When in Millerville she enjoyed going for walks to the ballpark to watch games or to the liquor store to have a pop, popcorn or pizza and visit with friends.
After leaving home, she worked in the Alexandria community while living with her sister Judy’s family. Later she lived at New Beginnings and worked at the Alexandria Opportunity Center for 26 years, retiring on June 14, 2018. She loved to sing, play BINGO, and do cross stitch. Vera enjoyed family visits, going for coffee and especially rides, treats and parades with her sister, Evelyn. The last four years Vera lived at New Beginnings in Starbuck where she formed a wonderful friendship with staff members, Tiffany and Karen.
Vera is survived by her siblings: Phillip (Barbara) Thoennes of Wadena, Judy (John) Johnson of Alexandria, Mary (Ken) Reuter of Sauk Centre, Ralph Thoennes of Alexandria, Michael Thoennes of Osakis, Darrell (Alice) Thoennes of Alexandria, Mark Thoennes of Millerville, David (Laurie) Thoennes of Moorhead, Peter Thoennes of Alexandria, Evelyn Thoennes of Alexandria; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Peter (1985), Rose (2010); brother, Don (2019), sister-in-law, Cindy (2021).
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
