Tommy Charles Lanes, 72, passed away on Monday, May 19th from cancer.
Tommy Charles Lanes was born November 8th, 1952 to Bob and lone Lanes in Montevideo MN. Не graduated from Montevideo High School in 1970. He proceeded to attend Moorhead State University for one year before joining the Army. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Moorhead State where he met Colleen. Together they moved to Brainerd where they wed on October 21st, 1978 and welcomed their twins, Robby and Michael, on May 25th, 1986. Tom continued his education at St. Cloud State University and earned his B.S. and Masters degrees. He then moved his family to Iowa to continue his education at the University of Iowa City where he earned his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation. He served as a rehabilitation consultant in Alexandria, MN where they made their forever home on Lake Geneva. Education was very important to Tom and was one of his greatest accomplishments aside from his wonderful family.
Tom was known for his free spirit and fun-loving attitude. He was a devoted dog lover and a passionate hunter for deer, pheasant, and turkey. Tom enjoyed traveling including his favorites: Cabo, Arizona, and Florida. You could catch Tom on the golf course or playing croquet with his friends. He was an avid card player including Buck (Euchre) and cribbage. Tom and Colleen thoroughly enjoyed playing backgammon on the deck and watching the sunset over Lake Geneva.
He is survived by his wife Colleen and sons Michael (Stacey) and Robert. He has 5 grandchildren: Blake, Logan, Madison, Jordan, and Ashton. Other survivors include his brother, Jerry (Bonnie) Lanes; and sister, Sally Shaur; along with brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at the house on Lake Geneva on June 28th.
Memorials may be made in Tom's honor to Pheasants Forever or the Lakes Area Humane Society.
