Susan Marie Mertens

Susan Marie Mertens of Cyrus and formerly of Alexandria, Minnesota, died unexpectantly at the Glacier Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN, at the age of 58 years old. Susan was born on May 11, 1968, to Richard (Carol Springer) Mertens in Alexandria, MN. Susan was a creative soul with a passion for arts and crafts, and gardening throughout her life. Susan was a graduate of Parkers Prairie High School in the class of 1986. She was not just an artist but also an incredible cook, particularly known for her delicious Eggs Benedict. 

She would often treat everyone to her baked goods, which she sold at the local farmer’s market. She also had a special knack for brightening the day with her singing and love for karaoke. 

Susan is survived by her loving mother, Carol Mertens, her son Kyle (Jessica) Mertens, her daughter Shaynna (Shawn) Kane, and her cherished grandson, James Michael Kane. She also leaves behind her sister, Cris (Michael) Udean, and brothers, Richard Mertens Jr. and Charles Mertens, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Mertens.

A Celebration of Susan's life will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Taplin officiating.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, August 7, 2026.
