Sherwin Andrew Carlson passed away on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at Evansville Care Center at the age of 96. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15th, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, at North Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery in Leeds, North Dakota
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made payable to Lakes Area Humane Society and given to the family.
Sherwin Andrew Carlson was born on April 21, 1930, in Evansville, MN to Aldrick and Agnes (Nelson) Carlson. He was one of 7 children and amongst his siblings was his twin sister, Shirley. Sherwin began his education at the country school in Evansville. He later attended Dunwoody College, where he learned drafting and estimating for construction. Following that, he served in the Army for two years and was honorably discharged in 1952. Later, he met Helen Straabe and they were married at Emmanuel Lutheran church in Evansville, MN on July 30, 1961.
Sherwin’s brother, Harold “Bud” Carlson, started the business Carlson Brothers Construction where Sherwin worked for many years. Bud and Sherwin built many churches, nursing homes, Holiday Inns, Pizza Huts, banks, and many other types of buildings. The brothers sold the business in October of 1985. Sherwin loved to hunt and fish, especially with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to auctions and had nice collections of guns, old tractors, hit and miss motors, and many different types of antiques. Above all, Sherwin enjoyed his pet family and will be remembered for his love for all animals.
Sherwin Andrew Carlson passed away on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at Evansville Care Center at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife, Helen; sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and Carl Goin, numerous nieces and nephews and many other friends who Sherwin considered family. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Harold Carlson, Harriet Johnson, Shirley (Curtis) Rossum, June (Floyd) Rossum, Mavis Winans; nephew, Richard Rossum; and niece, Pammy Johnson.
