Ruth Irene Roers was born June 8, 1927 in Lake Mary Township to Frank and Lillian (Muzik) Radil. Ruth started attending District 19 grade school at 5 years of age, graduating at age 13.
After graduation, Ruth's dad asked her if she wanted to be involved with farming, in which case he would rent another farm, or if she wanted to work in town. Ruth told her dad that she didn't think that she would marry a farmer, so she said that she would prefer to work in town. Little did she know that she would marry a farmer.
Ruth worked in Alexandria at North American, cleaning chickens and turkeys. After a few months, Ruth went to work at Osterberg's Cafe as a waitress, a job that she really loved.
She met her future husband, Roman Roers, at a dance in Millerville. Ruth said that she fell in love with him at once. Roman and Ruth were married on November 21, 1944 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria Minnesota. They were married for 59 years, until Roman's death in 2004.
Roman and Ruth farmed north of Millerville on the family farm where they raised their 7 children: Shirley (Ed) Silbernick, Marlys (Stuart) Saari, Roger (Darlene) Roers, Monica (Rich) Krebsbach, Rodney (Amy) Roers, Glenn (Lori) Roers, and Larry (Cindy) Roers.
Mom loved to work, but yet made sure that there was always time for fun. Gardening, baking, doing farm work, and helping in the implement business with Dad, along with raising 7 kids, didn't give her much free time, but Mom and Dad always made a point of socializing with friends and relatives. Going out dancing was always a priority for them.
Mom recalled that money was quite tight in the early years. Mom was the expert on saving what money they had. She was especially gifted in patching clothes. When we wore out the knees on our jeans, they got patched. When we wore through the patches, Mom would put patches on the existing patches! With today's trends in wearing patched clothing, she was definitely ahead of the times.
Ruth passed away peacefully on her 94th birthday, June 8, 2021, surrounded by her family at the St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie. We are so thankful for the care and kindness that was shown to our mother by the staff at St. William's.
Ruth is survived by her 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Also surviving her are her two sisters, Dorothy Dunn and Carol Karrow.
Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Roman, her son-in-law Stuart Saari, and her brother, Leslie Radil.
