Roy Albin Wicken

June 22, 1945 — August 20, 2025

Alexandria

Roy Albin Wicken, The Corn Dog King of Alexandria, MN died on the sunny, summer afternoon of August 20th, 2025 after a long & debilitating battle with dementia. He was 80 years old. Roy was born June 22nd, 1945 to Albin Wicken & Gladys (Skoglund) Wicken, the 2nd born of three children. He had a wonderful childhood full of fishing, hunting, waterskiing & rollerskating & “raising hell” which he always told everyone he was born to do!

Roy's visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, 4:00 - 7:00 PM with an Elk's Funeral Service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Friday, September 5, 2025, 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.

Roy attended Alexandria Public Schools, graduating from Jefferson Sr. High School in 1963. He graduated from Alexandria Technical and Community College with a degree in Machine Tool and Die. He worked for Boeing Aircraft, FMC, Bellanca Aircraft, Douglas Machine and other machine companies. His major passion since he was a teenager was special event food. He worked as much as he could on the road with many carnival companies over the years, operating as Midway Foods. He also opened a successful cafe in the 700 block of Broadway called The House of Sandwiches after which he owned and operated Roy’s in the Plaza and Roy’s Pub in what eventually became the Brass Lantern.

Roy was married to Carol Hanson & together they had three children, Tony, Amy and Aaron. Roy, Carol and their kids were actively involved in Midway Foods. They spent many summers traveling Minnesota and surrounding states with the best Corndogs and Footlongs, an operation of which they were very proud.

In 1984, Roy married Patty Hansen. Stepdaughters Terri and Rikki joined the family and loved the carny life as well. After the kids were grown, Patty and Roy visited Washington DC, Ireland, (Roy didn’t go to Panama because it was, well, in November!) They went to London, Paris, Italy, Spain, a Danube River Cruise, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Alaska and a tour of the SE United States. They loved to travel, go to concerts and attend live theatre.

Roy was a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks 1685, retired AFD (Alexandria Fire Department) fireman, a lifetime member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters, supported Ducks Unlimited and any organization with a focus on youth and conservation.

Roy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, brother Don Wicken, first wife Carol and son-in-law Paul Misener.

Roy is survived by his wife Patty, son Tony (Sandy) Wicken, daughter Amy Misener, son Aaron (Sadie) Wicken. Stepdaughters Terri (Jody) Webeck and Rikki (Franco) Iglesias. Grandchildren Matt, Ashley, Mason, Mitchell, Sam, Zach, Cody, Gabi and Sofi. Three great grandchildren and two on the way. Sister Louise (Steve) Nesvold and many first cousins, nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.

We know that we can’t have you; but we’re happy knowing there will be no fat angels in heaven going hungry.
