It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Anthony Propeck—beloved husband, father, and grandfather—on April 20, 2026.
Born on October 30, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Mary Ann and John Propeck, Ron spent his early years in Sioux City before moving to Osakis. It was there, during his high school years, that he met the love of his life, Karen Wright. They were married on May 6, 1978, and eventually settled in Bemidji, where they raised their three children.
Ron dedicated the final twenty years of his career to serving as a corrections officer for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. In a role that often demands toughness, Ron was defined by his compassion. He served as a positive influence to countless inmates under his care, earning a reputation for the unwavering grace he extended to everyone he met, regardless of their circumstances.
“Trust and Faith” was the motto Ron lived by, and his faith in Jesus Christ was the firm foundation upon which he built his life. He wanted everyone to know the love, freedom, and hope he had found; he shared that message with everyone he could, from the inmates he transported to the friends he met in daily life.
When he wasn’t working, Ron was happiest in nature—fishing, hunting, or tending to his many plants. Above all, he cherished time spent laughing with his family. A natural instigator of joy, he was the heart of the joke and the life of every gathering.
Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen; his children, Adam (Allison) Propeck, Casey Nus, and Seth Propeck; and his six grandchildren, Eli, Ella, Lillian, Violet, Isaac, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Propeck; sister, Johnette (Kelly) Kobes; brothers-in-law, Helmer (Jean), Jeff (Kathy), and Nathan (Mary) Wright; sister-in-law, Candy Herzog; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann and John, and his parents-in-law, Helmer and Ramona Wright.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Adult & Teen Challenge of Minnesota, an organization reflecting Ron’s lifelong commitment to grace, faith, and restoration.
