Roger D Apodaca, born on March 16, 1962, in Redwood City, California, passed away on November 9, 2024, in Barranquilla, Colombia. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Roger's journey began at Blackford High School in San Jose, California, he developed a sense of determination that would guide him throughout his life. At 14 he discovered his passion for cooking while working as a busboy. Leading him to work in and own several restaurants. As a chef at Mt. Cross Lutheran Bible Camp he met his beloved wife, Nicole. They were married on May 22, 2000, Roger and Nicole were so excited and filled with love when their daughter, Ingrid, was born a few years later while they were still living at Mt. Cross.
In 2006, the family relocated to Alexandria, Minnesota, where Roger continued to thrive in the culinary arts. His role as head chef at Mt. Carmel, along with his work at Sysco Foods and managing the bakery at Pete's County Market/Cub Foods, showcased his dedication and skill. Roger loved making delicious food for friends, family, and even strangers. He spent much of his free time volunteering for various camps and churches to help prepare meals for large groups of people. He was kind-hearted and gave generously of his time and talents. Roger was happiest when he was working with others in the kitchen.
Outside of his professional life, Roger cherished the moments spent with Ingrid, cooking side by side, creating delicious recipes and memories that will last a lifetime. The joy of camping as a family and simply enjoying the outdoors were treasured experiences that brought them closer together. He approached life with a sense of humor that could light up any room; his unique version of "Happy Birthday" is fondly remembered by those who were fortunate enough to receive it. Roger had an uncanny ability to turn any gathering into a delightful event, often brightened by his stories and laughter.
Roger is survived by his beloved daughter, Ingrid, along with his brother, Paul (Nancy) Apodaca, his brother-in-law’s Phil Sargent, and Justin (Janel) Woods, his father-in-law, Donald (Margaret) Woods, and mother-in-law, Betty Woods. He remains in the hearts of several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will honor his memory in their own cherished ways.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nicole; his sister, Cheryl; and his parents. Their absence will be keenly felt, but the love they cultivated will continue to resonate within those who knew Roger.
As we remember Roger D Apodaca, we celebrate a life rich with passion, love, and zest, marked by a masterful touch in the kitchen and the warmth of fellowship. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
