Richard Frink

September 6, 1928 — April 10, 2026

Carthage, Missouri

Richard Hareid “Dick” Frink, 97, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at his home. Dick was born on September 6, 1928, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of the late Ray Franklin Frink and Ruth Wilhelmina (Hareid) Frink. He lived a long life marked by courage, devotion, and love for his family, his country, and his community.

Dick was the son of a generation that knew hardship and responsibility early in life, and he carried those lessons with him throughout his years. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School in Minnesota and later attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. His education helped shape a life of steady purpose, but it was his character, work ethic, and generous spirit that truly defined him.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II in the 505th Airborne Infantry. His service remained one of the great honors of his life, and he carried that pride with humility and gratitude. Dick was deeply respectful of those who served, and his own military experience reflected the courage and commitment that would continue to guide him in all that he did.

Following his military service, Dick worked in hotel and restaurant management and later in sales. He eventually found a long and meaningful place at Wal-Mart in Carthage, Missouri, where he worked for 20 years in the sporting goods section. He was known for his reliability, his friendly manner, and the genuine care he showed to those around him. Whether helping a customer, sharing a conversation, or offering a kind word, he made an impression through simple acts of kindness and consistency. Dick was also deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Carthage VFW Post 2590, where he served as commander for many years, and he was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge. He took great pride in his service to fellow veterans and in the fellowship these organizations provided. He was especially devoted to the VFW, where he enjoyed running BINGO and helping with the Golden Pen for school scholarships. His commitment to these efforts reflected his belief in supporting others and giving back in meaningful ways.

In his personal life, Dick was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking and spending time outdoors. He appreciated the simple pleasures of life and found joy in staying active and engaged. He was Episcopalian by faith, and his beliefs were an important part of the values he lived by each day. He was very proud of his service and his dedication to his family, and those who knew him will remember him as courageous, loving, and passionate.

On May 11, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, Dick married the love of his life, Catherine “Jane” Rachels. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love, loyalty, and shared devotion. Jane preceded him in death on September 17, 2021, and Dick carried her memory with him always. Their bond remained a central part of his life and a source of strength and comfort through the years.

He is survived by his children, Rick Frink (Robin L.), and Robin J. Frink; his grandson, Rollin Frink (Savanah); his great-grandchildren, Lily, Alexxender, and Elizabeth Frink; his sister, Rae Lee Preston; and his longtime caregiver and friend, Brenda Evans. He was preceded in death by his sons, Ross Frink and Rollin Frink; his brothers, Ronald and Robert Frink; and his sister, Ruth Ann Franklin.

Dick will lie in state from 12 pm – 5 pm, Friday, April 17, 2026, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, for those who wish to pay their respects and sign the register book.
