His career began early, as he worked for local farmers, showcasing a strong work ethic that would define his life.
Richard's love story began on Halloween night when he caught the attention of Myra by gently nudging her parents' car. This encounter led to a lasting relationship, culminating in their marriage on April 22, 1961, at Richard's parents' home in Glenwood. Following their wedding, Richard and Myra began a new chapter together in Wheaton, where Richard contributed to the local agricultural community by working for a grain farmer. They eventually relocated to the Twin Cities area, settling in Coon Rapids, where they started their family.
The couple was blessed with five children: Randy, Rodney, Renee, Jeff, and Karla. As a dedicated father, Richard cherished the time spent with his family, often taking them on fishing outings and various trips across the United States. His children remember him not only for his caring nature but also for his sense of humor and penchant for pulling innocent pranks that brought laughter to their home. The family returned to their roots in Villard, where he initially worked at the Elevator before continuing his career as a machinist at Clyde's Machine in Glenwood. Known for his kindness and engaging personality, Richard could effortlessly strike up conversations with anyone, which he did frequently, often leaving them with a smile from his jokes and warm hugs.
After a fulfilling career, Richard retired at the age of 74, allowing him more time to pursue his interests alongside Myra. The couple enjoyed traveling, delighting in the simple pleasures of watching ducks and birds, people-watching at Walmart, and playing cards with friends.
