Alexandria

Randy Eken, 69, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 31, 1956, to Carol and Stanley Eken, Randy was raised in Mayville, North Dakota, where he graduated high school in 1974. Following graduation, he attended Mayville State University, where he played football and earned a degree in business administration in 1978.

After marrying his late wife Janelle on June 18, 1977, they moved to Grand Forks where Randy began a career at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. In the 1980’s and 90’s Randy balanced work with raising a family and coaching youth basketball, along with earning his master’s in public administration from the University of North Dakota. He eventually assumed the role of Associate Dean of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, a position he held until his retirement in 2017. He took pride in his work and in contributing to an institution dedicated to improving the lives and health of the people of North Dakota.

In 1987, Randy and Janelle purchased a lake cabin on South Twin Lake near Naytahwaush, Minnesota, where summers were spent with family, friends, fishing, and time on the water. Randy welcomed everyone, creating lasting memories and close bonds along the way. He cherished time across the road and the friendships he developed at Pinehurst Resort. Later, Randy and Janelle made their home in Alexandria, Minnesota, embracing lake life and his love for the outdoors. Randy found peace on the water. Janelle passed away in January of 2019 with Randy by her side.

Randy married Pamela Dickinson in September of 2021. They enjoyed time traveling, spending time with family, and connecting through faith.

Randy was known for his dependable nature, his thoughtful perspective, and his ability to connect with people in a genuine and unassuming way. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, his steady presence, and the quiet way he showed he cared.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Stanley Eken; his wife, Janelle Eken; and his brother, Bryan Eken.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Dickinson of Plymouth, Minnesota; his sons: Joshua (Molly) Eken, and their daughters Lily (16), Claire (14), Hazel (12) and Ruby (10) of Alexandria, Minnesota, Aaron (Sara) Eken and their son Calvin (12) and daughter Gabrielle (9) of White Bear Township, Minnesota; as well as his brother, Bradley Eken; and sisters, Robyn and Sandy Eken of Mayville, North Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
