Philip "Phil" Chalmers

Philip Lawton Chalmers was born on May 13, 1941, in Minneapolis, MN the son of Rev. Robert and Shirley (Pladsen) Chalmers. The family moved a lot during Phil’s childhood as his father was a Pastor. He graduated from Claremont High School in Claremont, MN and furthered his education at Mankato Community College receiving his Accounting Degree.

Philip met Sharon at a dance in Bismarck and the couple got married in 1967. To this union four children were born: Angelique, John, James and Alan.  The family lived in Minneapolis for a short time before making their home in Alexandria. Sharon passed away in 1985 from cancer. In 1988, Phil was united in marriage to Donna Stacy.

While living in Alexandria Phil worked for Douglas Machine in Accounting and HR. He worked for Douglas Machine his entire career in Alexandria retiring in 2001.

Philip had many hobbies over the years. When he was young, he had a passion for horses, even owning his own for a while. In retirement he enjoyed and excelled at wood carving and spending time at the family cabin on Maple Lake.

Philip passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026. He is survived by his three children: Angelique (Mark) Beaupre, John (Leah) Chalmers, James (Melissa) Chalmers; two step daughters: Jennifer Stacy, Sara Stacy; daughter-in-law, Kim; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sister, Mary Ann Neighbor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; son Alan; his parents, brother, George.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, 12:00 – 1:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to United Way Traveling Treehouse.
