OBITUARY OF PAUL C. ANDERSON - written by Paul C. Anderson

Paul C. Anderson was called to his Heavenly Home on November 22nd, 2022

Paul was born on the 23rd of February, 1927 in Pope County, Leven Township, MN to Roy Lee Anderson and Blanche (Mershon) Anderson. He graduated from Villard High School and went to Coos Bay, Oregon area where his father had purchased a dairy farm. He entered the military service in 1946, serving with the Army Security Agency near Kyoto, Japan.

In 1948 he met and married the love of his life, Velma Brede who he met through a dear friend Warren Linow. To this marriage he and Velma were blessed with 2 children. Sandra in 1950 and Daniel in 1952. Paul spent most of his working years with Sears, first as a store manager and then as an Allstate Insurance Senior Account Agent, retiring in 1989. After he retired Paul went to work with Billmarks Lakes Area Insurance Co. Not one to sit still, Paul was active in local politics, serving as clerk/treasurer of Alexandria Township for 15 years. Paul was elected to the position of Douglas County Commissioner in 1992 and served in that position until 1996 when he and Velma decided it was time to spend winters in the sunny south. In 2002 Paul missed his association with the public and decided to enter the political field again and was elected to the Douglas County Board. In addition to the county board position he served as the chair of District 4 of the Minnesota Counties Steering Committee for National Association of Counties.  Paul was a charter member of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse, held many positions in the Jaycees including National Director. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of America and first and foremost a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. He often said how fortunate he was to be raised in a God centered home. He was baptized in Lake Amelia at Villard and ever since has lived his life centered around his spiritual beliefs.

Paul is survived by his wife of 74 years and soulmate, Velma Anderson; Son Daniel, and his wife Rose of Ellenton, Florida; Son-in-law Richard Buttshaw, Brother David and his wife Dianne of Scottsdale, AZ;  3 Granddaughters, Toni Fogarty and her husband Dave of Belle Plaine, MN; Debbi Walberg and her husband Troy of Otsego, MN; Janasha Jones and her husband Al of San Diego, CA; One Grandson, Jason of Chicago IL, 10 great grandchildren; Patrick Fogarty, Courtney and Jazz Hampton, Richard Fogarty and Krista Peltonen, Madison Albrecht and Garrett Palmstein, Breanna Walberg, Isiah, Michael and Noah Jones, Emily, Christopher, Fitz, Molly, and Daisy Petersen; Five great-great-grandchildren Penelope, Hendricks, and Malcom Hampton, and Nolan and Layla Palmstein.
