Norman Wussow

Sep 12, 1927 — Aug 25, 2022

Leaf Valley Township

Norman Wussow was born on September 12, 1927 at home in Leaf Valley Township to Henry and Sophia (Woessner) Wussow.  He was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where he was a life-long member and faithful servant.  He served Ebenezer as Elder, Trustee and Treasurer.  He sang in both the Men’s Choir and Mixed Choir for many years.

Before graduating from Central High School in Alexandria, MN with the Class of 1945, Norman lost his father when he was only sixteen years old.  He and his brothers stepped in to keep the family farm going for his mother, Sophia.  Eventually he purchased this Century Farm from her and raised his own family there.

Norman met Eilene Meyer at a Dance in Brandon, MN.  Although it took a year, and a second chance meeting at another dance to make it to the officially dating phase, he persevered and they were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN on Sunday, September 6, 1959.  Norman and Eilene raised their five children to respect God, each other and the land that provided everyone a future.  In addition to hard work, there were many wonderful times!  Norman enjoyed playing Whist, Cinch, Rummy, and King in the Corner with friends, family and grandchildren.  You knew you were loved by him if you experienced his joking and teasing humor!  April 1st was certainly one of his favorite days of the year!

Norman was a Charter Member of the Leaf Valley Fire Department where he volunteered at fire and emergency calls for 22 years.  He was also a Charter Member of the Leaf Valley Sportsmen’s Club and served on the Boards of the Miltona Creamery for 17 years and Miltona Co-Op Grocery Store.  He provided custom field work for many neighboring farmers in the area and always found time to help a neighbor out.

Norman lived 94 years, 11 months and 13 days.  He is survived by his five children and their families: Stuart Norman and wife, Darcy, Brent Henry and wife, Kristy, and Kristi Eilene all of Leaf Valley, Gary John and Stacy Elizabeth of Mound, MN; granddaughters: Ashley and Megan Wussow of Leaf Valley, Karly Mace of Nelson, grandson, Nick and wife, Kendra; great grandchildren: Jasper, Neveah and Prestin Mace all of Parkers Prairie, sister, Naomi Gargaro and sister-in-law, Donna Wussow.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Eilene; parents, Henry & Sophia Wussow; brothers: Raymond and Kenneth; sisters: Ruth Hass and Delores Kloehn and many other family members and friends.  Blessed be Norman’s memory.
