Alexandria, MN

Myron (Mike) Henry Johnson age 86, of Alexandria, went to be with the lord on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Sanford Hospital Fargo, ND surrounded by family.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021, 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will continue on Saturday, December 18, 2021, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Mike was one of 6 children and the youngest of the family, born to Hans and Leona (Bliese) Johnson in Milroy, MN.  Was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Milroy, MN, Confirmed in 1948.  He attended District 91 country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Swanville, MN 1953.  He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and discharged in 1960.  Served in Korea earning the Korean Defense Medal.  Mike married Elaine Hartwig, September 1, 1962.  They enjoyed 59 years together and their marriage was blessed with two children Craig and Connie.  Mike and Elaine lived many of their years in Eagan, MN and then moved to Long Prairie, MN in 1985 and eventually retired to Alexandria, MN in 2013.

Mike enjoyed life, had a smile for everyone and could strike up a conversation with anybody, anytime.  He spent 40 years on the road driving the big rigs and loved the highway.  Mike loved to travel and his goal was to visit all 50 states.  Mike almost achieved his goal missing only Hawaii due to Covid.  Mike also enjoyed cruising the open seas.  Mike went on 6 cruises going to Alaska, Panama Canal, Nova Scotia, and the Caribbean 3 times.  One special trip was when the whole family was able to go together in 2018.

Mike never passed up a piece of candy, a game of cards, a road trip to the casino or a chance to go visiting.  The simple things brought him great pleasure and could sit in a chair for hours watching the world around him, most of the time earning him a fabulous sunburn.  His heart was huge and his hugs were many.  Mike found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and was so very proud of them.  For many years he grew huge pumpkins in his garden to give to them for Halloween to make their holiday just a bit more special.

Mike married the girl next door and enjoyed their life together.  They played bingo together, enjoyed a hand of cards daily, finished each other’s sentences, took naps together while “watching TV”, loved each other greatly and built a lifetime of memories.

Mike is survived by his Wife Elaine of 59 years, son Craig (Sue) Johnson Clarissa, MN, daughter Connie (Scott) Zuther Bismarck, ND, grandchildren Brandon and Mariah Zuther, siblings Dolly Wildman Glenwood, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Leona Johnson, Sisters Marcella (Sal) Gilb, Elaine Wegner, Dorthea (Pat) Nelson, and brother Norman (Norm) Johnson.

Mike, Buddy, High Pockets will forever be loved and missed each and every day.  The amazing stories he shared and the memories he made will live on.
