Myron Clarence Larson

Myron Clarence Larson was born January 12, 1930 to Clarence and Mathilda (Behning) Larson. He spent the majority of his childhood years growing up on a farm near Watertown Minnesota with his older sister, Bernice and younger sister, Janice. His love of farming began there. In high school he played football and boxed, graduating in 1947. He loved to return to Watertown through the years and reminisce about the town and the antics he and his friends participated in. Somehow, he ended up with the nickname, “Shark.”

In 1951, Myron was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. He served on the front lines in Korea with the Infantry Rifle Company. It was many years until he could speak of the terrible things he saw and lived through during his time in Korea.

Upon his discharge in 1953, Myron returned to Watertown. After a blind date with Shirley Dworakoski he told his mother “he had met the one.” They eloped to the Little Brown Church in the Vale in December 1957. They were blessed with four children; Robert in 1960, Barbara in 1961, Judith in 1963 and Jeffrey in 1966. Myron and Shirley built and managed a Dairy Queen for a few years in Golden Valley. (Myron loved ice cream till his last days.) The family moved from Watertown to Hamel, Minnesota in 1965. Myron drove to Minneapolis for work with a manufacturing company and then a well company, but his love of farming was always on his mind.

In 1975, the family moved to a farm in rural Garfield, Minnesota. With the help of Shirley and the kids they raised cattle, grain and hay. Myron was a hard worker and wasn’t one to relax until ALL the work was done. He instilled a good work ethic in his children as well. For the next 42 years Myron and Shirley remained on the farm, taking great pride in the crops and cattle. The family took many trips to the Black Hills of South Dakota, a favorite spot for Myron. Myron enjoyed helping with the kid’s 4H projects and spending time at the county and state fairs. Myron loved to hunt and spent many hours with his boys deer, pheasant and duck hunting. They always had a large garden on the farm that just kept getting bigger. Following Shirley’s retirement from teaching school, they traveled by bus to many locations including Washington DC, Branson, Calgary, and Glacier National Park.

Myron and Shirley’s first grandchild was born in 1986 and they would go on to be blessed with 6 more. They were so happy and proud to see all the children and grandchildren’s life events and see them grow up and become good people. It was a great joy for Myron to see his great grandchildren arrive. In recent years Myron loved watching their events as well. He was looking forward to having another great -grandchild in just a few days after his passing.

Shirley passed away in 2019 and Myron moved several times since her passing; first to Herman, then Hoffman and finally Evansville. He met many new friends but always missed Shirley’s presence.

Throughout Myron’s life his faith was important to him, he remained a faithful servant of God. You can rest in peace now, Myron, your work on Earth is done.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; sister Bernice VanDerZee and husband, Robert; Brother-in law, DeRoyce Monroe; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Roy & Joyce Dworakoski. He is survived by sons Bob (Lette) Larson of Nelson, Jeff (Kim) Larson of Fargo, ND; daughters Barb (Dick) Groth of Detroit Lakes and Judy (Greg) Richards of Herman; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at the Brandon City Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to World Hunger Organization.
