Mary Alice Huwe was born on June 29, 1946, in Alexandria, Minnesota, to George and Marie (Peterson) Christopherson. Mary’s childhood was steeped in the natural beauty and joyful activity of life on Lake Ida. The family farm/resort was not only her home but a source of treasured memories filled with fishing and row-boating on the lake—a place she held close to her heart throughout her life. She graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1964 and maintained a connection to her classmates. Her educational journey continued at Alexandria Technical and Community College, where she honed her typing skills before embarking on a dedicated career as a service representative for Social Security, a position she held with commitment until her retirement.
Mary's personal life was filled with love and companionship. She met her beloved husband, Lewis and they were married on September 6, 1969, at Calvary Lutheran Church. Together they built a rich family life blessed with three children: Timothy, Connie, and Khristopher. They were active members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. The family shared many joyful adventures, from fishing to memorable road trips spanning across the country. The family enjoyed hosting annual 4th of July gatherings at the lake that brought the entire extended Huwe Family together in celebration. As the last member of that generation of Huwe siblings and spouses, she cherished the role of Auntie Chris. Alongside Lewis, she also enjoyed vacations to various locations in Mexico with some extended family, creating further cherished memories.
Mary’s vibrant spirit extended beyond her family into her community and hobbies. She found joy in singing and participated in multiple church choirs over the years. Mary loved socializing and spending time with friends, particularly enjoying conversations over a cup of coffee or salad luncheon. Her generosity and warm nature made her a beloved figure to all who knew her. Above all, Mary treasured her role as grandmother, adoring her two granddaughters who brought light into her life. She will lovingly be remembered for her infectious laugh and aspiration to make others smile and will be deeply missed.
Mary passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Cloud Hospital. She was 79 years old. She is survived by her children, Timothy (Nancy) Huwe, Connie Huwe, and Khristopher (Melody) Huwe; and granddaughters, Kassidy and McKenzie Huwe. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis Huwe; and infant brother, Gary Christopherson (died in 1952).
