Marty Gulbrandson, 66 of Hoffman, passed away at Knute Nelson in Alexandria on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minnesota, beginning at 11:00 AM with a public visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be immediately following the memorial service at the church and will take place at Bethel Cemetery. Friends and family are then invited to the Lowry American Legion to share in a toast and sharing of memories to honor Marty’s life.
Marty Norman Gulbrandson was born on August 7, 1959 to Norman and Mavis (Bolstad) Gulbrandson in Alexandria, Minnesota. Marty grew up one of four children, and attended public school in Hoffman. He enjoyed playing trumpet in the school band, and hunting and fishing while not in school.
After graduating with the class of 1977, Marty married Julie Muzik in 1978 and the couple welcomed two boys, Dillon and Dallas. Marty worked a variety of jobs before health complications forced him into retirement, but he was especially proficient at buying, fixing, and reselling cars and lawnmowers. He also liked working with horses. Marty would frequently joke that he didn’t know who was going to be broke first, as he seemed to be prone to being thrown off quite a bit in the taming process.
While not coon hunting with his coon dogs, going to the casino, or watching good old western movies, Marty deeply enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Together, they share many great memories spent out at the racetrack.
Marty started doctoring several years ago due to his many health complications. He was eventually diagnosed with ALS in 2024. Marty was placed on hospice and brought into the wonderful care of Knute Nelson by Vivie in early May of 2026. He was lovingly cared for until his passing on May 17, 2026, at the age of 66 years old.
Left to cherish Marty’s memory are his sons: Dillon Gulbrandson of Hoffman, Dallas (Amber) Gulbrandson of Alexandria; grandchildren: Lilly, Mathias, Ethan, and Adlee; sisters: Diane Borner (Gary Anderson), Laurie Gulbrandson; nephews and niece: Dustin, Austin, Casey, and Coty; as well as many other beloved relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Mavis Gulbrandson; and his brother, Wayne Gulbrandson.
