Margaret Lehto

May 17, 1933 — October 25, 2020

Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of Alexandria, Minnesota

Margaret Irene Lehto, the daughter of Palmer and Ella (Christopherson) Hubred, was born in Urness Township, MN on May 17, 1933.  She attended country school through the eighth grade and then helped her parents on the farm.  Margaret married the love of her life, Hjalmer Lehto, on August 17, 1952, at the Justice of Peace in Alexandria, MN.  Two children were born to this union, Mary Ellen and Helen Lorraine.  Margaret stayed at home to raise her children in the Garfield area.  After Hjalmer died, Margaret moved to Alexandria and worked at Washington Elementary School as a cook for a few years before she retired.

In 1985, Margaret’s daughter Mary died, leaving her four-year-old son Adam, without a mother.  Margaret without question lovingly raised her grandson in Alexandria until he was 18 years old.  Margaret loved her three cats, her dog “Maggie,” and watching the squirrels come up to the feeder in her yard.  She enjoyed her extensive Elvis Presley collection, visits with family, good coffee, and ice cream.  She was an avid Twins and Vikings fan who also liked to watch westerns, read romances, and embroider.

Margaret I. Lehto, died on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 87 years old.  She is survived by her loving daughter, Helen Mueller of Maryville, OH; grandchildren, Michelle Resene of Columbus, OH, Adam Norris of St. Cloud, Shawn Resene of Columbus, OH, and Aaron Mueller of Columbus, OH; the Erickson family and the Norris family.  Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hjalmer Lehto, daughter, Mary Ellen Norris, and brothers Elvin and Tony Hubred.
