Lorraine June Bedman was born on November 25, 1933, on the family farm in Leaf Valley Township to Walter and Irene (Froemming) Schoeneck. Tragically, Lorraine lost her father when she was less than a year old, an event that prompted a deep appreciation for family reunions later in life. Educated at Zion Lutheran School, Lorraine later graduated from Central High School in Alexandria, where she was a spirited cheerleader. After high school, she worked at Public Works in Alexandria, Minnesota, and later at a law firm in Minneapolis.
In her personal life, Lorraine married Harry Bedman, and to this union, four children were born: Deborah, Connie, Jacqueline, and Jerome. After their children were born, Lorraine dedicated herself to being a devoted mother. The family owned and operated Bedman’s Beach Resort on Lake Ida where they created lasting memories each summer. Following each resort season, the family returned to their home in Crystal, MN for the school year.
Lorraine pursued her higher education with great pride, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a master’s degree in child psychology. With her newfound qualifications, she taught at Breck School and others in Hennepin County. She then took a brief hiatus to work as a travel agent before returning to substitute teaching. Additionally, she worked at Northridge Nursing Homes in New Hope, MN.
Lorraine was passionate about music, studying, reading and golf. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and was active in community service, volunteering for cancer crusades. Family reunions brought her great joy, and she had a keen interest in politics and traveling.
Lorraine will be remembered for her love of family, commitment to education, and community service.
