Leroy Richard Carlson

January 18, 1936 — February 21, 2023

Alexandria (Formerly Coon Rapids)

Leroy Richard Carlson was born on January 18, 1936, to Rueben and Helen (Hansen) Carlson in Dassel, MN. He grew up in Litchfield, MN and graduated high school from Litchfield Senior High. During high school, Leroy enjoyed golfing and roller skating which is how he met the love of his life, Maureen Sullivan.

Leroy and Maureen were married on October 26, 1957, at the Church of St. Ann in Hamel, MN. Before starting a family, Leroy enlisted in the Airforce where he was honorably discharged after 4 years. The couple was blessed with 3 children, Kevin, Kraig, and Kelly. They raised their children in Coon Rapids, MN where they continued to live for a total of 55 years before moving to Alexandria in 2021. The family went camping often and Leroy taught his children how to hunt and fish. Leroy spent his career working as a quality control engineer at Honeywell and making fishing lures for a business he owned called “Lee’s Tackle”. He retired at 55, but continued his passion of creating jigs until about 10 years ago.

Leroy and Maureen spent much of their time together dancing, fishing,  playing cards, and travelling to Parker, AZ. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time with friends, and being present and supportive at every sporting event or activity for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was easy to see how much Leroy loved and truly believed that he had the cutest grand and great grandchildren. He was a quiet and reserved man and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Leroy Carlson passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Alomere Health at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Maureen; children, Kevin (Paulie) Carlson, Kraig (Sherie) Carlson, and Kelly (John) Kuhlman; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanne Koerner; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leroy is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna McGannon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
