Larry Duane Watne

October 15, 1942 - February 12, 2022

Larry was born in Fosston, MN to Lloyd and Lorraine Watne. He grew up on the family farm near Goodridge, MN, where he also attended school. On October 16, 1965, he was united in marriage to Kathryn LeMay Karlstad. They had 4 children together and were later divorced. He then married Boots Abernathy and together they had one son.

Larry served in the National Guard and worked various jobs including Alex Concrete, WASP in Glenwood, MN and Boeing in Washington. He then went on to start his own trucking company and got to travel to all 50 states as well as Canada!

Larry enjoyed playing a variety of musical instruments such as guitar, piano, accordion, banjo, and harmonica, all of which he played by ear. Sitting around a campfire while playing his guitar, you would quickly learn that Larry liked to insert his owns lyrics and never failed to get a laugh from his audience. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and tractors. In addition, Larry loved spending time visiting with family and friends. Those that knew Larry knew he was quick with a joke and always enjoyed telling stories.

He is survived by his 4 children, Tammy (Lynn) Schmeling, Loren (Lori) Watne, Jimmy (Melissa) Watne, Shannon (Jessie) Watne; 5 grandchildren, Chelsey (Michael) Scott, Courtney Schmeling, Tyler, Matthew and Rylan Watne; one Great-Grandson, Brooks Roberts; Sister, Linda (Howard) Hanson; Brothers, Lyle, Lonnie, and Lowell (Sherrlene) Watne, many nieces and nephews and a very special friend Margaret Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lorraine Watne and daughter Laurie Bentley.

A celebration of life will be planned in spring/early summer and held in Alexandria, MN.
