Kathleen Adele Wheeler, the daughter of Lloyd and Lenora (Mattson) Berglin, was born on July 24, 1940, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm in La Grande Township and attended Country School District #99. Kathleen was a cheerleader and part of the last class to graduate from Central High School in 1958. After high school, Kathleen married Gerald Geris and they moved to the Twin Cities. Three children were born to this union, Chuck, Curt, and Cindy. Kathleen worked in the office for Blue & White Cab Company and for Senator Cliff Lofgren at the State Capital before moving back to Alexandria in 1964. Kathleen then worked at Indian Head Transport, ALP and Douglas County Hospital.
On July 3, 1973, Kathleen married Doug Wheeler at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Together they moved to Apple Valley in 1985. Kathleen worked at Family Physicians in the business office until her retirement in 2002. After Doug’s passing, Kathleen returned to Alexandria in 2015 to be closer to family. Kathleen enjoyed baking, cooking and watching the Vikings (win). Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kathleen A. Wheeler died on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria, MN at the age of 81 years old. She is survived by her children, Chuck (Janice) Geris of Alexandria, Curt (Margo) Geris of Alexandria, Cindy Kluver of Alexandria, and Todd (Mary) Wheeler of Alexandria; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) Geris, Brock Geris, Ryan Geris, Ashley (Garret) Johnson, Emily Geris, Hunter Geris, Cody Kluver, Dr. Marissa Wheeler (husband Mark Kallevig) and Jake Wheeler; seven great grandchildren, Alisa, Garrison, Lollie, and Grafton Johnson, and Jameson, Lauren, and Wyatt Geris; sister, Mary Ida (Russ) Oorlog; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Doug Wheeler; son-in-law, Todd Kluver; grandson, Isaac Kluver; siblings James Berglin, Stuart Berglin, Sharon Herzog and sister-in-law Lois Berglin.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 2 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Hans Dahl officiating.
Visitation will take place from noon until 2 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Calvary Lutheran Church.
Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
The funeral service for Kathleen will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Kathleen's obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website beginning at 2 PM on Tuesday.
