Judith Penrose

December 12, 1943 — November 8, 2020

Parkers Prairie, Minnesota

Judith Irene (Volkman) Penrose was born on December 12, 1943, in Marshall, Minnesota, the daughter of Donald and Verna (Bauer) Volkman.  She was confirmed on May 15, 1958 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ruthton, MN.  Judi and her family moved to Alexandria where she graduated high school in 1961.  She was united in marriage to David Penrose, just one minute after midnight on January 1, 1979 at 1st Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie.  The couple made their home in Parkers Prairie where they raised four children: Dawn, Todd, Erin, and Ryan.  Judi helped David with their many different businesses throughout the years.  She also worked as an EMT in Parkers Prairie for 10 years.

Judi always kept herself busy.  She was on a bowling league for 30 years and played softball as the 2nd baseman for many years.  With a bar of soap and a little ice, Judi pierced numerous ears for the local young women of Parkers Prairie.  She was tough to beat at cribbage, 31 and scrabble.  She also liked to do sudoku, crossword puzzles and word searches.   She enjoyed hunting shooting “Bucks only” and she donated over 15 gallons of bloods to the Red Cross.

Family was the most important part of her life.  With her lovely smile, she hosted every holiday at her home.  She made sure everyone had lots of fun, along with plenty of food and drinks.  She loved everyone and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judith I. Penrose, went to be with God, Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Alomere Health in Alexandria at the age of 76 years old.  She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, David Penrose of Parkers Prairie; children, Dawn (Brian) Rubner of Pine River, Todd (Susan) Syverson of Cross Lake, Erin Penrose (Scott Thorbjornsen) of Montello, WI, and Ryan (Chelsie) Penrose of Parkers Prairie; 10 grandchildren, Molly, Jason, Ryan, Darian, Triston, Hunter, James, Carelen, Alicia, and Isabella; one great grandchild, Ryker; brother, Orin (Linda) Volkman of Wyoming; sister, Rolly (Tom) Betterman of Isanti, and many nieces and nephews.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Donna Gray.

A Celebration of Judi’s life was held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, MN with the Reverend Kirk Lee officiating.  Honorary Urn Bearers were all of her grandchildren.
