Joseph Pasiowitz, 92 of Miltona, passed away at Bethany on The Lake in Alexandria on Monday, June 30, 2025. Private family services are pending. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Belle River. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements for Joe.
Joseph Francis Pasiowtiz was born on January 6, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Francis and Mary (Buksa). The middle of three children, Joe attended private Catholic School at DeLaSalle, graduating with the class of 1951.
In May of 1953, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He worked as a switchboard operator during the Korean War, going on to receive a National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged May 13, 1955 and soon began working for Lee Jean Company.
During his short time in the garment industry in North East Minneapolis, Joe met Darlene Barthel. After work one night, Joe offered Darlene a ride home not knowing she lived in St. Michael. The long commute ended up being fortuitous as the couple were married on June 30, 1956.
Joe left Lee Jean Company for the opportunity to work for The United States Postal Service in 1956. He and Darlene settled in Mounds View, where they welcomed four children. Joe was a hard worker and excellent provider. He enjoyed fishing with Darlene, playing horseshoe, cribbage, and cards – which he was unrivaled at.
At the age of 55, Joe retired from the post office. He and Darlene relocated to a lake home in Miltona in 1988. Together, they enjoyed many years of both summer and ice fishing. After Darlene’s passing in 2002, Joe was blessed with many more years at their home where he was able to continue gardening and spending time with his family. Joe also continued to work as a school bus driver until the age of 80. The children who were lucky enough to have him as a driver loved and respected him.
In the more recent weeks, Joe’s health started to decline. He had a short stay in the Alexandria hospital, eventually being moved to Bethany on the Lake, where he was placed on hospice. On Monday, June 30, 2025, Joe was welcomed into Heaven by Darlene, on their wedding anniversary.
Joe will always be remembered as a hard-working and humble man. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor that lasted until the final moments of his life, and he was immensely proud of his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Denise (Tim) Callander, Diane (Rod) Zimmel, Michael Pasiowitz (Deb Charley); grandchildren: Katie (Kyle) Polman, Kelsey (Michael) Grommesh, Sam Callander, Douglas Zimmel, Michael (Becca) Pasiowitz, Mallory Pasiowitz (Luke Briggs), Payton Pasiowitz, McKenzie (Jeremy) Chubb, Courtney (Jack) Plankers; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Pasiewicz. He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents, Francis and Mary; son, Greg Pasiowitz; siblings, Sr Bernice Pasiowitz and June Pasiewicz; as well as many other beloved relatives and friends.
