Joseph Francis Bergherr was born on May 28, 1948, in Morris, Minnesota to Roy and Viola (Lesmeister) Bergherr. He graduated from Morris High School and went into basic training for the Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Joe returned to Morris and continued in the Minnesota Army National Guard for 28 years. From a previous marriage Joe had 4 boys Scott, Chad, Jason and Nick. He worked a variety of jobs after returning to Morris, and later started working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation working to install signs along the roadside.
In 1997, Joe moved to Alexandria and was united in marriage to Lynnae Mielitz on September 19, 1998. Joe continued to work for the Department of Transportation but started working with the highway maintenance department. He retired in 2010 after 23 years.
Joe loved riding his Harley Davidson, fishing, prairie dog hunting, target shooting where he would even reload his shells. He was an excellent dancer and was very fun to watch as he was so light on his feet. Joe also enjoyed playing cards, poker, waterskiing, rollerskating, and loved his 50’s and 60’s music, especially the Beach Boys. He enjoyed being with family and friends and making sure everyone had a good time, but family was number 1 and would do anything for them. He also made sure his dog, Harley was spoiled.
