John Rambeck

October 23, 1950 — December 1, 2020

Alexandria, MN

John Rambeck, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Dec. 1 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

He was born Oct. 23, 1950, in Thief River Falls, MN to Ray and Edith (Anderson) Rambeck. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Moorhead State.

On Sept. 14, 1974, he was united in marriage to Joanne Johnson at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia, MN.

John worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for 40 years. He started as a fireman, then transitioned to locomotive engineer and in 1996 moved to a management position as a road foreman out of Glenwood, MN. He retired from the railroad in 2010.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading books, listening to music, technology, winters in Florida, the family pets, boating, fishing (if they were biting), and time at his cabin. Most recently, he enjoyed following all of Simon and Archer's endeavors including school, sports and chess. He was a proud and supportive father and grandfather, always there to cheer at sporting events and extracurricular activities or to offer his often solicited advice on anything from house projects, the latest tech, to life in general.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Steve (Desirae) Rambeck of Minnetonka, MN and Scott (Laura) Rambeck of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons, Simon Rambeck and Archer Rambeck; siblings, Jeanne (Del) Johnston, Paul (Darlene) Rambeck and Tom (Julie) Rambeck; several nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Karen Kilpin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles; and brother-in-law, Jerry Kilpin.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  CDC guidelines of wearing masks and social distancing will be observed.
