John L Kilpatrick

John Letham Kilpatrick passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2026, with his wife Janet at his side. Born on July 29, 1928, in Walkerville, Ontario, Canada, John moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan in 1937. He earned a degree in fine arts from Wayne State University in 1954 and served in the US Army for two years. He began his professional life teaching art at Henry Ford High School in Detroit before starting a career in insurance sales. On March 30, 1959, he married “his girl,” Janet Jankins, and together they built a life centered on family. John and Jan made their home in Warren and Northville, Michigan, where they raised their three daughters, and later spent time in Texas before retiring permanently on Lake Ida in Alexandria, Minnesota. John is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet; his three daughters; Julie (Dan) Presswood, Karen Kilpatrick (Don Brang), and Jennifer (Fred) Meier; five grandchildren, Grace Brang, John Brang, Alyse (Aaron) Ferrante, Paul (Amanda) Meier, and Angela (Chris) Richardson; four great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Grace and brother Robert (Roy).

John will be remembered for his steady love, dedication to his family, and the life he shared with those he cherished most.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.  

The family suggests that memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of your choice.
