Funeral Services for John will be held on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025 at 11:00 am at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN with Fr. Matthew Kuhn presiding. Visitation will be at 10-11 am. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
John was born on March 19,1957 to Dr. Robert and Rose Arendt. He was the youngest of seven children growing up on Lake Cowdry and made Alexandria his lifelong home. His longest employment was at Arrowwood Resort where he made many great friends. He was highly respected for his dedication and timeliness over his 25 years, retiring in 2018. Even before his retirement, as his mom aged she could always count on him to help her out and in return she made him tasty home cooked meals. He loved to joke with his sister that he was the “Number 1 Good Son”!
People quickly realized what a great guy Jack was and what a quick sense of humor he had. He read every issue of the local Echo and Mpls. paper which allowed him to enlighten us about happenings in Alexandria and beyond. He also was a faithful Twins fan and a sometimes Viking fan.
As John’s Parkinson’s became more debilitating and he needed more care he missed his independence most. He held his belief in the afterlife and was comforted by visits from St. Mary’s parish nurse and priest as well as visits from his friends and family.
John is survived by his brothers; Joe, William (Shirley), Tom (Jeanne), sister Mary Jane (Bruce) Black, and sister-in-law Sherry Arendt as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Annie Ivins, brother Steven and sister-in-law Elizabeth.
In remembrance of John Arendt, those who wish may send contributions to Hospice of Douglas County or St Mary’s Church in Alexandria, MN
