Joan Arlene (Skarka) Cook, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at Alomere Health in Alexandria, MN. Born on June 7, 1940, in Sidney, Nebraska, Joan’s life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and love for her family.
At the age of twelve, Joan moved to Bluffton, Minnesota, a place that would become central to her journey. She attended Wadena High School through the eleventh grade, fostering lifelong friendships.
Joan’s proudest milestone was the day she married Marvin Cook on September 1, 1958. Their union became the cornerstone of a family marked by warmth, resilience, and love. Together, they raised their children in a home filled with laughter, shared meals, and countless cherished moments.
A loving and devoted wife, Joan is survived by her beloved husband, Marvin. Her legacy continues through her children: Leroy Cook, Connie (John) Marshall, Irvin Cook, and Joseph Cook, each of whom carry forward the lessons of love, patience, and strength that she embodied.
Family was the heart of Joan’s life, and she adored her grandchildren. To them, she was not just a grandmother, but a source of immense joy and gentle guidance—proof that there is truly nothing better than a grandmother. Her home was always open, her hands skilled at crafts and cooking, and her heart always ready for the company of those she loved.
Joan is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Skarka, Richard Skarka, Billie Skarka, Robert Skarka, Mary Isaac, and Wilma Becker. The bonds she shared with her brothers and sisters were lifelong treasures.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law and a great-granddaughter, whose memories she held close.
Friends and family are invited to honor Joan’s memory at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Alexandria), 420 Irving St, Alexandria, MN 56308. Visitation will be held on July 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
Joan Arlene Cook’s legacy will be remembered in the warmth of her kitchen, the creativity of her crafts, and the happiness of her grandchildren gathered around her. Her love, generosity, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
